Even 15 minutes for your own self-care adds up over a number of days and weeks.
You don’t need us to tell you that we are living in a crazy world right now and in one way we seem to have so much time (at home) and on the other hand, we feel like we don’t have time. Everything can still feel rushed with boundaries being blurred between work and home, it can feel less easy to carve up our day.
This month, we aren’t going to talk pandemic, we are going to talk You.
Whether you are still working, are furloughed or aren’t working, time is precious. We only have 24 hours a day and we get to decide how we spend that time. What we tend to find is that habit decides how we spend that time. When was the last time you considered how much time you want to spend on things based on how much priority and importance you place on those things?
When we feel out of control, we often feel like there isn’t enough time to do everything. “I’m busy” is a common answer to the question, “How are you?” The more we feel in control of our own time, the more our stress levels decrease.
This month your challenge is to Treasure your Time. First of all, write a list of your priorities in life down, ideally in order. Then break your day down into 15-minute segments, you can use a spreadsheet for this and look at how many times throughout the day you do things that are focused around your priorities. You can do this on a more micro level by looking at your priorities at work too and breaking down your tasks at work.
If you can see that your day is structured in a way that plays to your priorities that you have decided, that sense of control will be there. Even 15 minutes for your own self-care adds up over a number of days and weeks.
