Have you ever been to watch a car race?
Taking a trip to see some fast cars drive around a track may sound boring if you have no interest in cars but let me tell you, you are wrong. I’m not a car fan, I can appreciate a car that looks pretty and goes fast but that’s the kind of description I annoyingly give my husband when I see a nice car drive past me on the way to work and I try to explain it to him. They are like festivals, you don’t need to go just for the main show, go for the atmosphere and experience.
Formula 1 is the epitome of this fast car festival.
Whilst it may be full of celebrities, you don’t need to have a celebrity level budget to go for the weekend. With prices starting from £129 for all 3 days, it can be planned as a long weekend mini break.
For general admission tickets, you will need to get to the track early to get yourself a good spot. Check out Enter F1, which gives advice on where to sit to get the best view of Silverstone race track. I’d suggest taking a packed lunch as food can be quite expensive (Approx. £8 per burger) in the grounds.
It’s not just about the F1 race that is on telly either, at a race weekend, there are loads of other competitions and car races all day, so there is always something going on. Some of the tracks even host mini festivals after the racing. I was lucky enough to be in Abu Dhabi for work last year, picked myself up a ticket and ended up seeing Pharrell Williams and The Who, not bad as a free part of the ticket!
I have no idea what is happening during the car racing, and to be honest, I don’t think I really care, but what I really enjoy is the sound, the smell and the thousands of other people around you that have all come to see something amazing happen. In a sport with so much controversy over time and with recent bad press around safety due to the first death in the sport for 20 years - Jules Bianchi. Formula 1 often gets bad publicity, justified or not, it’s a great day out and something very different to settling in with takeaway and a box-set.
If you ever get offered tickets, take them, it won’t disappoint, and if I’ve still not convinced you, give me the tickets, I will happily take them off your hands!
