Change

Things have changed.  Remember back in January when we all had holidays planned, events to attend (and organise), we all had a normal life.  Some liked that normal, some weren’t so keen but we all were living in a world when the words unprecedented, COVID-19, and social distancing weren’t being uttered everyday.

We can’t control it, that change has happened, we will forever speak of pre and post pandemic time.  We don’t know yet what it’s going to look like in post pandemic world but I can near guarantee that it won’t be the same.  This experience will have changed us, on an individual level, a company level, an industry level and a societal level.  We can’t go backwards.  We have all changed.

We get to decide if we want to embrace the change.  We can sit here resisting it and feeling it is a negative thing or we can try to re-position it as an opportunity.  Change has happened, more change will happen, will you be in control or not?

“Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself.” ― Leo Tolstoy

How can we change ourselves then?  We have a philosophy at No More Ifs Or Buts which is Don’t Just Be.  Be Successful. Be Yourself.  Be Better.  Be Bold.  Be whatever you want to be but don’t give up.  There needs to be a balance between Being and Doing.

So the first thing is to identify what we want and start making changes to support that.  We want to improve relationships, let’s work on that, improve fitness, let’s work on that, improve financial situation, let’s work on that.  Identify the area, the target, set some steps in to get you there and start the change.

We are huge advocates of building emotional intelligence and self-awareness is the first step of this, really listen and learn about yourself.  What kind of person are you?  Do you jump off the handle quickly?  Are you slow and maybe a bit of a procrastinator?  Building that self-awareness will help you to change yourself for the better.

Once we’ve built our emotional intelligence, it’s a lot easier to change the world around us as we start to see our relationships with others ease, innovation comes more naturally and we seem to get what we want a little more often.

Change yourself. Change the world.

Write a list of the changes you want to make yourself and the changes you want in the world and see what actions you can take.

One final note is to think about the changes that are unwanted and unwanted. When we feel out of control and that change is happening around us it can cause anxiety and lead us to feel negatively about the situation.  That’s when it’s not wanted but sometimes unexpected change can be positive such as getting a bonus at work, spending more time with family etc.  Try to establish what parts of the change are wanted and unwanted.

Once you’ve managed to do this, then you can continue navigating to move forward through the 7Cs.

Join us each week as we are navigating the 7Cs of Crisis, next week we will be looking at Courage.
