One of the biggest challenges facing people today is that they feel like life is just passing them by. How is it the end of July?! When you do the same thing every day, time merges and it passes us by quicker than it should. However, every day we are offered the opportunity to do things differently. One of the biggest challenges facing people today is that they feel like life is just passing them by. How is it the end of July?! When you do the same thing every day, time merges and it passes us by quicker than it should.
However, every day we are offered the opportunity to do things differently. We just need to be willing to see, touch, taste, smell and hear everything that life offers us.
Is your routine the same every day? Do you get up the same time? Take the same route to work? Are you the type of person who is fond of trying things differently? Or, are you the type of person who is a creature of habit?
If you go to eat in a buffet, do you choose the things you‘ve not tried before? Or, you take the same old stuff? When buying clothes, are you trying new colours? Or, do you stick with your safe options?
It’s not a case of changing things for the sake of it but about ensuring that you aren’t missing opportunities to expand your business or horizons by taking a chance on something new.
There are so many simple ways you can add a little variety to your day.
• Try a new food or drink • Take another path when driving, running or walking
• Change your routine at home / office • Change your exercise routine or start a new one • Go to a place that has not been before
The list of things we can do differently is endless. When you start to change the way of doing things, you expand your mindset and make room for opportunities.
A business may experience low turnouts, lack of employee commitment or low sales. This could be as a result of the way the company performs its operation, it could be a flop in their style of branding, customer delivery, employee satisfaction or even the method of marketing. Choosing to do one or two things differently may just be the right recipe for ensuring higher productivity.
A little twist in one area could be what you need to add that touch of magic that will turn sales around.
• Try a new line when picking up the phone to a potential client • Phoning each of your clients after every order
• Add another quality control check before your client receives the order • Review your monthly expenses to check you’re not over paying in your easy to forget areas
A company using a door to door sales system of marketing may decide to open an e-commerce portal where people can buy its product. This has to do with the fact that most people hate someone knocking at their door trying to sell a product to them, but feel more comfortable when they can purchase things from the comfort of their homes. As a business person, coming up with new innovations and trying things in a different manner will give you the idea about what works and what doesn’t, and how to effectively implement the things that work.
The popular quote by Mark Twain cannot be any truer, “if you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always got”. Evidently, life itself is an adventure that is worth exploring. By going past one’s shell, trying new things, you will discover a whole new world of endless possibilities.
No more ifs or buts.
